William Curtis Wright September 11 1992 Age 71, Houston, AIDS
Per researcher Brandon Wolf: Curtis Wright was the window dresser for Sakowitz in 1953, and the roommate of David Moncrief (just roommates). He brought a statue back from work, when they were ready to toss her. She weighed a ton and had been used for years. During the winter, they just put her outside in alley. He thought it would be fun to have it in David's apartment, because where he lived, in was an artsy enclave, with statues outside. At the first party, he put a party lei around her neck. No one knows for sure when they decided to call the awards The Dianas, but she got her name from being at the first awards show in 1954.
